Empowering Diverse Enterprises · Brooklyn, New York
The work is already happening.
We make it stronger.
Édé is a Brooklyn-rooted nonprofit that relieves poverty and advances education in underserved New York City neighborhoods. We run free community programs, pay local providers so their services reach people at no cost, and give community-led projects the nonprofit home they need to last.
Our role
Rooted in Brownsville, Canarsie-Flatlands, Flatbush and Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Édé is the Haitian Creole word for help. The people doing the most important work in central Brooklyn — feeding neighbors, tutoring kids, mentoring young women — rarely have a bookkeeper, a 501(c)(3), or a grant writer. We supply those things so the work reaches more people and keeps going.
Everything we run is free, open to all, with no application, eligibility requirement, or means test.
We run programs.
Free hot meals, youth nutrition and gardening education, tutoring, and mentorship, operated by Édé and open to anyone who shows up.
We pay providers so services are free.
When a qualified local provider can deliver a service better than we can, Édé pays them a fair market rate under a written agreement, and the people who need the service receive it at no cost.
We sponsor community-led projects.
As a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, Édé receives and controls contributions, approves budgets, pays vendors, and issues donor acknowledgments, so a project with vision but no infrastructure can raise funds and operate legally.
Projects
Projects in action.
Current programs and projects show the three ways Édé turns community leadership into free public benefit.
Founders' note
Infrastructure is what lets community work last.
Édé was founded by three organizers who built America's first worker-owned rideshare from the driver's seat. We learned there that the work is never the hard part. Infrastructure is.
There is more than one way to support the work.
Donate, volunteer, propose a project, or become a provider.
